When public refer to today’s medicine, accuracy plays one of the most significant roles and human lives are directly dependent on it. Hereby, any researches related to medicine are required to comply with the top standards. The issue nowadays is that any conclusions of researches can be shared online and used as a reference without being properly checked and validated. Mikhail (Misha) Blagosklonny of Oncotarget perfectly understood this issue and tried to come up with an alternative solution. That’s how a weekly oncology-focused research journal named “Oncotarget” has been founded back in 2010. The main principle of this journal is related to Altmetric scores that are used as a quality indicator. That helps both readers and authors to verify publications with Altmetric Article Reports that generate “real-time feedback containing data summary related to a particular publication". Oncotarget: cGAS-STING pathway in oncogenesis and cancer therapeutics

Oncotarget   Volume 11 ,   Issue 30   reported that recent evidence shows that the host innate immunity is also critical in sensing the presence of cytoplasmic DNA derived from genomic instability events, such as DNA damage and defective cell cycle progression. This is achieved through the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase /Stimulator of interferon genes pathway. Here the Oncotarget authors discuss recent insights into the regulation of this pathway in cancer immunosurveillance, and the downstream signaling cascades that coordinate immune cell recruitment to the tumor microenvironment to destroy transformed cells through cellular senescence or cell death programs. Its central role in immunosurveillance positions the cGAS-STING pathway as an attractive anti-cancer immunotherapeutic drug target for chemical agonists or vaccine adjuvants and suggests a key node to be targeted in a synthetic lethal approach. They also discuss adaptive mechanisms used by cancer cells to circumvent cGAS-STING signa

Oncotarget: The temporal effects of topical NF-κB inhibition: a preclinical model

The cover for issue 35 of Oncotarget features Figure 4, "The in vivo pre- or post- topical application of BAY 11-7082 prevents the acidic bile-induced deregulation of cancer-related miRNA markers in 10-day exposed murine HM," by Vageli, et al. reported that Supraesophageal bile reflux at strongly acidic pH can cause hypopharyngeal squamous cell cancer, through activation of the oncogenic NF-κB-related pathway. The authors hypothesize that topical pre- or post-application of pharmacologic NF-κB inhibitor, BAY 11-7082, on murine HM can effectively inhibit acidic bile induced oncogenic molecular events, similar to prior in vitro findings. They demonstrate that the administration of BAY 11-7082, either before or after acidic bile, eliminates NF-κB activation, prevents overexpression of Bcl2, Rela, Stat3, Egfr, Tnf, Wnt5a, and deregulations of miR-192, miR-504, linked to bile reflux-related hypopharyngeal cancer. Pre- but not post-application of NF-κB inhibitor, significantly

Oncotarget: Neuroendocrine carcinoma of uterine cervix findings shown by MRI

Oncotarget   recently published " Neuroendocrine carcinoma of uterine cervix findings shown by MRI for staging and survival analysis – Japan multicenter study " which reported that to investigate   neuroendocrine carcinoma   of the uterine cervix cases for MRI features and staging, as well as pathological correlations and survival. In 50 patients who underwent a radical hysterectomy and lymphadenectomy without neoadjuvant chemotherapy, intrapelvic T staging by MRI overall accuracy was 88.0% with reference to pathology staging, while patient-based sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for metastatic pelvic lymph node detection was 38.5%, 100%, and 83.3%, respectively. Three-year progression-free and overall survival rates for FIGO I, II, III, and IV were 64.3% and 80.9%, 50% and 64.3%, 0% and 0%, and 0% and 0%, respectively. Sixty-two patients with histologically surgery-proven uterine cervical NEC were enrolled. The Oncotarget author's findings show that MRI is reliabl
